Fifteen Tanzanian animal healthcare professionals, Soldiers from the U.S. Army 448th Civil Affairs Battalion, and the Joint Civil Affairs Team in Tanzania assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa came together to participate in a two-week Veterinary Civic Action Program, or VETCAP, training session in Mkinga District, Tanzania Sept. 3-14.

The Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Medical Logistics Traveling Contact Team exchanged best practices with the Tanzanian Peoples' Defense Force in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, January 30 through February 2.

"We went down at the invitation of the TPDF," said U.S. Navy Commander Dan Patterson CJTF-HOA deputy force surgeon. The team spent five days exchanging ideas with the Tanzanians on U.S. procedures for medical planning and logistics, he said.

U.S. Navy healthcare providers from Camp Lemonniers' Michaud Expeditionary Medical Facility (EMF) recently teamed up with Djiboutian surgeons to successfully remove a large lymphatic cyst from the neck and shoulder of a local newborn infant. This procedure represents one of many surgeries involving combined U.S. Navy and local medical staffs.
