US Soldiers, French marines dive into French Commando Course prequalification assessment

French marines assigned to the 5th Overseas Interarms Regiment, Djibouti, climb a net as part of a water-based obstacle during a French Desert Commando Course prequalification assessment at Montclair, Djibouti, Nov. 22, 2017. Their fellow marines and 30 U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 144th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Bayonet, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, watched as each team of three to five members went through the water assessment. Each service member had to complete all of the water-based obstacles in order to compete in the two-week French Desert Commando Course, which includes desert, water, and mountain portions. Lapse In Appropriations
The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
