ALI OUNE, Djibouti-The Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1 Commander visited Seabees at Ali Oune Village, September 21.

Commander Michael W. Meno visited with Seabees assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, who are staged out of Ali Oune village, where they’re building a clinic in support of the Ministry of Health for Djibouti.

The facility will serve as a health clinic for Ali Oune village, providing medical treatment to locals who live there.

Meno was excited to see his troops in action, but to also witness first hand the amazing progress his fellow Seabees have made on the clinic.

“It feels fantastic being out to visit the troops,” said Meno. “I’m really proud and honored to see the hard work in very austere conditions and the morale they all maintain. It’s truly amazing, I love my job.”

The Seabees were also visited by Master Chief Derrick D. Arrington, the Command Master Chief for NMCB 1. Both the Commander and Master Chief received a detailed tour of the site to include viewing structure plans and living conditions.

Meno and Arrington spent some of their time asking questions and allowed their troops to voice concerns to improve quality of life while living at the project site; ensuring they have what they need to complete the mission.

Arrington who is very proud of his enlisted corps, was excited to shake hands with the men and women of NMCB 1.

“It’s awesome to see this detachment out here working so hard, I’m so proud of them,” said Arrington. “I know that if we got the call to fight tonight, we’d be ready. Ops like this not only help build their tactical skills, but also their technical skills. I’m very excited to be able to serve in this capacity.”

Meno and Arrington were impressed with the Seabee’s work and their ability to keep morale high, in less than ideal conditions; a testament to the team’s passion for their work and commitment to excellence.
