MSATA, Tanzania – U.S. Army Soldiers with the East Africa Response Force (EARF), assigned to Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), conducted Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training with the Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) on the opening day of Exercise Justified Accord 2025 (JA25) at the Msata Military Training Base, Feb. 11, 2025.
CJTF-HOA plays a critical role in enhancing security cooperation and strengthening partnerships across East Africa, and this TCCC training underscores the task force’s commitment to building interoperability with regional forces. Throughout the training, EARF Soldiers and TPDF troops reviewed and practiced life-saving battlefield medical procedures, including hemorrhage control, airway management, breathing stabilization, vascular access, hypothermia prevention, and tactical field care. By working together in a hands-on, immersive environment, both forces enhanced their ability to communicate, collaborate, and execute TCCC procedures in real-world scenarios.
According to the U.S. Army TCCC Handbook, nearly 90 percent of combat fatalities occur before a casualty reaches a medical treatment facility, making prehospital care a decisive factor in reducing battlefield deaths. The Department of Defense’s Center of Excellence for Trauma Committee on TCCC (CoTCCC) and the TCCC Working Group developed evidence-based, best-practice guidelines to enhance trauma care on the battlefield, which were reinforced during this training.
Exercise JA25, the premier U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) exercise in East Africa, is designed to enhance multinational combat readiness, strengthen crisis response capabilities, and foster collaboration among allied and partner forces. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and hosted by Kenya, Djibouti, and Tanzania, JA25 integrates high-intensity training scenarios that sharpen warfighting skills, expand operational reach, and reinforce the ability to execute complex joint and multinational operations.
Through this training, CJTF-HOA continues to advance regional security cooperation and fortify its long-standing partnership with Tanzania, further strengthening the collective capability of allied and partner nations across East Africa.
