Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Image

MOGADISHU, Somalia- An exercise participant jumps from a boat to reach the shore during a Somali Police Force Maritime Police Unit exercise demonstrating the unit’s capabilities Aug. 25, 2016. Representatives from approximately seven countries involved in improving stability and security in Somalia observed the demonstration off the coast of Mogadishu. Trained by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the maritime police unit received two new vessels for training and interdiction operations around the coast of Somalia. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
