Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Image

U.S. Army Maj. Eric Torrado receives a U.S. Flag from Chief Boatswain’s Mate (Sel) Kevin Nolan during a 9/11 remembrance ceremony held Sept. 11, 2016, at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Torrado intends to take the flag back to the New York City Police Department, where he is employed, and put it on display at One Police Plaza, the department’s headquarters. U.S. Air Force Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
