Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Image

Pfc. Fabio Saldanha, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment gunner, engages a simulated target during a fire team exercise in Arta, Djibouti, Oct. 20, 2016. During the exercise, one team would provide cover fire while the other team advanced on a simulated target. The intent of the exercise was to teach soldiers how to move from inside a vehicle when in contact with the enemy, exit the vehicle, and then return fire effectively using live ammunition on simulated targets. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
