CJTF-HOA Brings Experience, Abilities Together to Conduct Sustainment Operations across Somalia

Members of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa Logistics Directorate’s Base Operating Support-Integrator office coordinate support resources at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, August 18, 2017. U.S. Africa Command designated CJTF-HOA as BOS-I in August 2016, putting the 500-person task force in charge of coordinating the efficient use of mission resources to sustain U.S. forces in forward operating locations in Somalia. Currently, CJTF-HOA’s main effort is to improve security in Somalia by neutralizing violent extremist organizations like al-Shabaab and successfully transitioning security responsibilities from the African Union Mission in Somalia to the Somali National Security Forces. Combined Joint Task Force–Horn of Africa conducted an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise in the Union of the Comoros, Jan. 23–26, 2026. US AFRICOM Commander Visits East Africa Region
U.S. Air Force Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
