Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Image

U.S. military and Department of State officials meet with Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed in Mogadishu, Somalia, Oct. 12, 2017. Topics of interest covered during the meeting included U.S. and Somali national interests in the region and opportunities to strengthen the Somali National Security Forces, particularly as the African Union mission in Somalia troops transition out of the security role in coming years. Attendees of the meeting included Martin Dale, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission to Somalia, U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, U.S. Africa Command commander, U.S. Marine Corps Brig. US AFRICOM Commander Visits East Africa Region
U.S. Air Force Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
