U.S Niger Forces Conduct Joint Mortar Training Event

Col. Maj. Moussa Salaou Barmou(left), Nigerien commanding officer, commends U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Ben Simon(right) assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) after a month-long mortar training event at Niamey, Niger, June 9,2021. Soldiers learned all mechanical actions of the 60mm mortar systems to effectively employ mortars during the month-long training event.

US AFRICOM Commander Visits East Africa Region
U.S. Air Force Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and AFRICOM senior leaders, conducted a series of high-level visits to Africa with stops in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Puntland, Nov. 23-27, 2025. The visits were part of an East Africa trip aimed to strengthen America’s strategic approach to confronting terrorism through mutual engagement, stronger cooperation, and aligned security priorities.
