Tactical Operations Center readied In support of Cyclone Idai relief operations

U.S. service members assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) set up a tactical operation center in Maputo, Mozambique, Mar. 28, 2019. CJTF-HOA is leading U.S. Department of Defense Cyclone Idai relief efforts in support of United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Disaster Assistance Response Team. The task force is helping meet requirements identified by USAID assessment teams and humanitarian organizations working in the region by providing logistics support and manpower to USAID at the request of the Government of the Republic of Mozambique.
CJTF-HOA supports Mozambique humanitarian relief

Service members from Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa are providing logistics and airlift capabilities to support the U.S. Department of Defense’s relief effort in the Republic of Mozambique and surrounding areas following Cyclone Idai. Teams from CJTF-HOA, which is leading DoD relief efforts, began immediate preparation to respond following a call for assistance from the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Disaster Assistance Response Team. CJTF-HOA Foreign Liaison Officers participate in small arms familiarization

Foreign Liaison Officers, called FLOs, here at CJTF-HOA have the important job of acting as representatives from their countries to provide insight and share expertise. FLOs from Italy, Japan, Comoros, Burundi, Germany, Kenya, South Korea, and Spain all went out to the range, hosted by Task Force Alamo, 1-141 Infantry Soldiers, to get to know the M9, and exchange insights regarding their own countries weapons qualification processes.
Rematch: Camp Lemonnier vs. Gendarmerie

In December, Camp Lemonnier's soccer team won 3-0 against a team composed of Djiboutian Gendarmerie, a branch of local law enforcement. The Gendarmerie's team won this week's rematch 3-1. The Gendarmerie work closely with local U.S. law enforcement and CJTF-HOA to help support force protection for Camp Lemonnier, and events like these soccer games help to strengthen partnerships.
Seabees complete Ali Oune Women's Medical Clinic

U.S. Navy Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1, assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, completed and turned over the newly constructed Ali Oune Medial Clinic to Djibouti government officials during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the clinic Jan. 31. The 2,900-square-foot clinic, which the Seabees spent five months completing, is intended to enhance the Ministry of Health for Djibouti’s ability to provide basic medical, birth and after care to the Ali Oune village and its more than 1,000 residents and rural neighbors.
403rd Civil Affairs Battalion medics teach Italian partners Combat Lifesaver course

A team of medics with the 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion Functional Specialty Team, assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, conducted a Combat Lifesaver Course for a class of 16 members of the Italian Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri (National Police) on Base Militar Italiano de Supporte, Jan. 14-18.
German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency

The German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (GAFB) is awarded to and worn by German service members of all ranks and may also be earned by U.S. service members and worn subject to uniform regulations. In addition to a basic fitness test, service members must also complete a ruck march, timed swim, and marksmanship demonstration.
