Air Force Capt. Receives MAJCOM CGO of the Year

Supporting more than 1,800 military and civilian personnel is no easy feat, but for Capt. Diaundra Walker, it is part of a normal day.
Walker, who was assigned as the Holm Center career development chief, was awarded the Air Education and Training Command 2014 Personnel Company Grade Officer of the Year on Nov. 24, 2014.
Walker competed with CGOs from 12 different Air Force bases and was recognized as the top performer in AETC based upon her military performance, significant self-improvement and services within her community.
“I am extremely honored and grateful for being selected as AETC A1 Personnel CGO of the Year,” said Walker. “It is important to be acknowledged and recognized for these accomplishments to illustrate that you are a valuable asset to the Air Force.”
The AETC manpower and personnel (A1) Awards is a Major Command level award and the second-highest level award that an A1 community member can receive. Walker will go on to compete for the Air Force A1 CGO of the Year.
As project lead for the Holm Center headquarters-building move, she coordinated a $5M building renovation and a computer/communication changeover for 200 personnel. Additionally she processed officer assignments, awards and evaluations during the government sequestration thus keeping missions on track despite a 60 percent staffing shortage.
In spite of her busy schedule, she also completed 18 semester hours with the American Military University earning her second bachelors degree.
“Working with Capt. Walker has been nothing but fantastic!” said Air Force Maj. Audra Lyons, Holm Center deputy director of support. “She is both motivated and motivating, using her intelligence to figure out a way to accomplish any given task.”
Walker is currently the officer in charge of Joint Personnel Center and Administration for Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. She is responsible for more than 2500 personnel records and monthly completes an average of 200 Navy pay and entitlements, 45 rest and relaxation requests, 15 requests for emergency leave, 200 joint awards and decorations, and 25 instruction and administrative documents.
According to Navy Capt. Rebecca Minton, CJTF-HOA director of personnel, “Walker is a motivated junior officer who executes her duties in a highly professional manner. I am extremely pleased for Capt. Walker and her selection as the AETC personnel CGO of the Year.”
Walker said that by getting this recognition, it provides her the drive and motivation to continue to do quality work and perform at her best.
“Always pushing forward to excel is important not only because it is a standard that it is expected of you by your leadership, subordinates or peers, but also because it is a standard that you have set for yourself,” said Walker.
