Deputy Commanding General
Brigadier General (BG) Damian T. Donahoe serves as Deputy Commanding General, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
Brigadier General Donahoe enlisted in the United States Army in 1984, as an Infantryman. He later was commissioned in 1989 through the Army ROTC program at the University of South Dakota.
Brigadier General Donahoe has completed assignments from Platoon Leader through Company Commands in the 2-133 Infantry Battalion (Mechanized) and Staff assignments as an Armor officer in the 1-113 Cavalry Squadron. Brigadier General Donahoe continued to serve in assignments of increasing responsibility with commands at the battalion level with the 1-113 Cavalry Squadron and Brigade Command of the 2/34 Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Recently he served as Assistant Adjutant General, Iowa National Guard, and was dual-hatted as Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard at the Maneuver Center of Excellence, Fort Benning, Georgia.
Brigadier General Donahoe’s operational assignments include Qatar, as Army Ground Liaison Officer with the 379 Air Expeditionary Wing and Afghanistan, serving as Brigade TAC Team Commander for 2/34 Infantry Brigade Combat Team partnered with 1st Brigade, 201 Corps, Afghan National Army. In 2016, he served as Deputy Director NATO Advisory Team in Pristina, Kosovo, to form the NATO Advisory and Liaison Team (NALT). Most notably, he served as part of the four-person military and civilian executive leadership group as Chief Advisor, NALT, from August 2016 until his departure in June 2017.
His awards include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with 2 Campaign Stars), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with Gold hourglass, “M” Device, and Numeral 2), NonCommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon (with Numeral 2), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal (with Bronze Service Star).
Brigadier General Donahoe holds a bachelor’s in chemistry and master’s degree in Secondary Education from University of South Dakota. He also holds a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
