Troop contributing partners receive staff officer training

Military staff officers from Kenya, Uganda and Burundi attended the Africa Contingency Operations Training and Assistance force headquarters training program at the Humanitarian Peace Support School in Nairobi, Kenya, Feb. 6 - Mar. 10, 2017. The five-week course was facilitated by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to improve Africa’s military capabilities by providing selected training necessary for multinational peace support operations.

Members of U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa assist members of the Djiboutian Armed Forces during the construction of modular shelter systems in and around Djibouti City, Feb. 27, 2017. The six military grade shelter systems were donated by Alaska Structures through the Global Action Coalition for use as schools, clinics, and centers for cottage industry to promote the health, education and economic stability of the Djiboutian people.

Soldiers form bond with Djiboutian caretakers

Tadjoura, Djibouti – A cool breeze sets under the blistering sun as kids play in the streets of Elimo neighborhood. Days can be filled with fun and excitement for children living at the SOS Village D’ Enfants compound, but for the caretakers they can be stressful and exhausting. Watching over curious toddlers and monitoring overstimulated kindergartners can be challenging for caretakers who’re responsible for each child’s safety and well-being. In order to enhance its staff’s capabilities, the SOS partnered with a local Civil Affairs team, to form a discussion group that one day can save a child’s life.

Sniper platoons from the 11th MEU and French Marines conduct bilateral training during Exercise Alligator Dagger

ARTA, Djibouti – The Arta Plage training grounds were quickly filled with 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) members during amphibious landings from Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), earlier this month, near Djibouti. Once on shore, the Marines wasted no time initiating training events associated with the month long Exercise Alligator Dagger.
